Most people who know me know I like WHITE SHIRTS. Usually this means white tee shirts. But I do have a modest collection of nice quality white blouses from places like ColdWater Creek and TravelSmith. I have a few blouses from LLBean when they made the higher quality styles a few years back. I have about 15 shirts now...which is unusual for me.
I don't like the oxford cloth material; I prefer soft draped materials that move freely and flow nicely with movement. At the same time I cannot stand silk or satin like clothing either- it's too **fake** for my taste. And I abhor stretchy shirts-- those make me feel like I'm in a horror movie for some reason. Finely milled, Pure 100% cotton, is what I like. I've never liked tucking in shirts and don't plan to start now.
I like the feeling of a crisp clean white blouse on my skin. I also like how the white shirts go with just about everything: Blue jeans of course, as well as nicer knit sport pants.
My fetish for white shirts has never left me. I never used a pocketbook before in my life until recently- it's not really a pocketbook so much as it's an all purpose quilted bag my friends gave me last Christmas. It holds all my work papers and files, as well as several bottles of water, pens, my planner books and cell phone and camera. If it hadn't been for work, and my overriding desire to stay organized and know where everything is I would not have used this bag. The planner book replaces an old leather book I have had for upwards of 22 years; it's falling apart and sort of useless. Hence my friends also got me a new planner cover for Christmas. So my shirt fetish is serving me well. I still wear blue jeans whenever I can (which is most the time) but these shirts go well with them. The bag is cute, in it's own unique way and serves a purpose. It gets to stay for now.
I avoid wearing white shirts. The very first time I used to wear one, I spilled something on it. And the stain was always of the type that wouldn't wash out: coffee, tea, cranberry juice, etc. **sigh**
ReplyDeleteAs for purses, I have many -- nearly all gifts. I hate to shop! My favorite purses are quilted bags. Washable, too!
So, what is MY fashion fetish? Sweatshirts with designs or witting sayings on them. My three faves at the moment: (1) royal blue with a white tatted cat, (2) pale green with "I am the grammarian about whom your mother warned you," and (3) fuchsia with an appliqued flowered heart.
I'm lucky where I work in that we dress very informally: sweat pants and jeans are the norm for all of us -- students and teachers. Even dress shorts are allowed, but the building is damn cold all year long.
Raven never dressed for any success. She was always a mess. She used to get by with wearing scrubs and putting her hair up. Not anymore and she fights it. Her friends and I got her all kinds of nice things that we thought were not too dressy or over-her-top. Since she always loved white tops, why not invest in some good ones? A little bleach goes a long way for white. I have lots of sweatshirts wth printed sayings and embroidered images. I collect those.
ReplyDeleteAOW, I wear the cheap tee shirts for my shifts at work where I'm dealing directly with clients. The other shirts are for the more manager type shifts. I spill crap all the time and sometimes wear a bib like thing LOL!! I have sweatshirts too- plain ones for now- the cheap Wal Mart variety.
ReplyDeleteKim! You're cruel!
