Let's Not Allow Medical Competition

Whenever competition comes along, people are better off. Just don't tell hospitals that.

In NH, Cancer Treatment Centers of America want to do business. The local medical community is all up in arms over it. Why? Because CTCA have a better track record; people have access to truly cutting edge technology and treatments not found at traditional health care facilities. CTCA accept people with most insurances, and yes, they also treat people who CAN pay cash. Why is this a crime?

A person left a comment at the UnionLeader web site for this article, and it's a perfect explanation to why it is a crime, to bring in a FOR PROFIT health care company:
Non-profit NH hospitals provide millions of dollars of care that they never receive any payment for, those fortunate to have insurance or the means to pay support the facility, it is the formula that allows anyone to walk into an emergency room @ 2:00 a.m. and not be turned away. To have a for profit entity siphoning off only patients who can pay will erode the NH health care to the detriment of everyone. It would only be competition if a for profit entity had to treat everyone who came through their door, some who cannot pay a dime.
Hmm. Do you feel enlightened now? One for profit center enters the state and the entire health care "infrastructure" will fall apart?? We so need more competition if this is reality! Besides, what good does a FOR PROFIT facility do for the state? Let's see- they generate money and receive NO subsidies from the government; they pay TAXES since they're FOR PROFIT and get not tax breaks; and they create jobs that are not dependent upon government (TAX PAYER) money!

A crime? No. Just a good idea. If CTCA doesn't offer competitive services, they won't get patients. If that happens, the center will close. Let the people chose- not some stupid policy that deters free enterprise.
