Here in NH, a guy comes home to find his place has been robbed. He hears some odd noises outside and has a look- a young man with a backpack is climbing out of a window of the neighbors house. It's obvious this is a robbery taking place. The guy grabs his pistol, runs outside, tells the person climbing out of the neighbor house to FREEZE, and he fires a shot in the opposite direction purposely aiming away.
The NH police and attorneys general have their granny panties all twisted up and tangled high over this. How dare a mere citizen shoot at a robber!?! The peasants must call 911 and hide under their beds! Let the police save you and your belongings. Right?
NO! The man in this story faces 3 to 10 years in prison (!!??!!) for his "crime". It's bullshit. No one was hurt. A neighbor looking out for a neighbor- the way things should be. Police get all offended when these things happen because, quite simply, they see this as it is: A direct threat to THEM. Arm the citizens and educate them on safe arms use, and we would have no use for police!
I read yesterday that the charges have been dropped.
ReplyDeleteEven if true, that charges were brought at all is a travesty.
Once I phoned the police when my house had been robbed. The police were angry with ME because I was armed and had "cleared" the house myself. I really had no choice! I was as far away from the front door as possible when I detected the ransacking of the bedroom. What was I supposed to do? Run outside? Hell, the burglars could have been out there for all I knew.
BTW, I've been well versed in firearms since long before the responding police officers have even been alive. Sheesh.
Yes the charges were dropped. The AG decided it would not be worth all the trouble he was sure to get if he proceeded forward with this. The public backlash would have been tremendous. Since when is shooting at the ground, a crime?
ReplyDeleteSince the police fear for the jobs. An armed citizen is a threat to law enforcement job security, I'd say. And of course those above the law who fear the citizens with arms will make laws keeping them apart. It won't work. No way.
